Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I own the land when I purchase a plot?It is common for people to think they “own” the land but actually they do not. What they have purchased is the “right” to be buried there. This is called an “Interment Right.”
How long will I own my interment rights?
You own these rights forever. Plots, cremation spaces, crypts or any other interment right will never be re-sold.
Can someone else in my family use the grave/crypt I purchased?
Yes, as long as the individual who holds the interment rights gives written permission.
How long have you been in Business?
The history of Park Lawn LP dates back to 1892. We have been in business many years and will be here for many more.

What is a burial vault?
A burial vault is a concrete outer container that surrounds and protects the casket after burial. It assures the integrity of the casket will not be compromised.
Can I arrange for my cremation directly with any of your cemeteries?
Yes, family counsellors at any of our cemeteries can assist you with any of your questions and/or needs.
Why should I pre-pay for my cemetery, mausoleum or cremation arrangements?
By pre-paying for your arrangements you can be sure that your wishes will be carried out as prescribed by you. Also, you will be given peace-of-mind that your family will not be left making difficult decisions at a very emotional time.
Why should I purchase in advance, that is why I have life insurance?
By pre-paying for your arrangements you can be sure that your wishes will be carried out as prescribed by you. This also allows you to freeze the cost at today’s prices. Cemetery products and services, like everything else, are subject to inflation.
Can you recommend a funeral home to use?
Absolutely, there are many fine funeral homes that we would be happy to recommend.
Tell me about the cremation process?
Cremation takes place in a chamber called a retort. The cremation container (casket) is placed in the retort which is then heated and causes the composition of the body to be reduced to bone fragments. This is the first step in the cremation process and takes approximately two hours. After a cooling period, the cremated remains are removed from the retort and then processed into fine particles which are commonly referred to as “ashes.” Cremated remains (ashes) for the average adult weigh from four to eight pounds. The cremated remains are then placed in an urn
or a temporary container, depending on the family's plans. The total time necessary for the entire cremation process is approximately four hours. Cremation is strictly controlled. The process takes place in our carefully maintained facilities using procedural checkpoints which guard the dignity and individuality of each person.
After cremation, what are my options?
Cremation offers many different options when it comes to final resting place and/or memorialization. An urn can be buried, whether adjacent to a casket or in an area designated for cremation burial. Depending on your burial choice you may choose either an upright monument or a flat marker.
Can I scatter cremated remains (ashes) anywhere I choose?
No, permission must be obtained from whoever owns the land (whether public or private). Keep in mind that scattering is an irreversible process and your intentions might not always be respected when property changes hands or is developed.
Why is having a place to visit so important?
Remembrance practices, from the funeral or memorial service to permanent memorialization, serve an important emotional function for survivors by helping to bring closure and allowing the healing process to begin. It provides a focal point for memorializing the deceased. To remember, and be remembered, are natural human needs.
What is a care and Maintenance fund?
When an interment right is purchased a portion is set aside for the care and maintenance of the cemetery. This amount can be up to 40% depending on the interment right chosen. The cemetery uses the interest from this account to carry out the care and maintenance. The principal continues to grow and is not used for care and maintenance. This way cemetery property may be cared for in perpetuity (forever).
My significant other wants cremation and I want a full casket burial. What can we do?
Our cemeteries allow for the burial of a casket and cremated remains (ashes) in the same lot.
Do I save money by choosing cremation?
Yes you can save money by choosing cremation; however it is possible to spend as much or more on cremation as in casket burial. More and more people are choosing cremation for reasons other than saving money. In many cases it is just their preference or they feel it is more environmentally friendly.
